NormalMapAI — Free In-Browser Normal Map & PBR Texture Generator
Free in-browser Normal Map & PBR Texture Generator. Turn 2D images into normal, 16-bit height, roughness, AO, ORM & seamless maps locally via WebGL2.
A Free Local Studio for Normal Maps and PBR Textures
NormalMapAI is a free, zero-login online Normal Map Generator and full PBR Texture Maker at https://normalmapai.com/. It is built on in-browser WebGL2 GPU shaders. Artists, game developers, and 3D printing creators drop a 2D photo or texture and generate maps with no install and no account.
Every pixel is processed 100% locally in the browser. Textures never leave your device. Pricing is free: 100% free in-browser, with zero login.
Core Capabilities
Tangent-space normals from one photo
From a single 2D image, NormalMapAI builds tangent-space normal maps in both OpenGL (+Y) and DirectX (-Y). Pick the green-channel convention your engine expects.
Height, roughness, and packed channels
The generator also writes 16-bit PNG height and displacement maps, plus roughness, ambient occlusion (AO), metallic, curvature, specular, and emissive maps. Channel-packed ORM maps combine occlusion, roughness, and metallic for glTF and many Unreal materials. If you want the full material from one picture, start with the Online PBR Texture Generator from Single Image.
Live 3D preview
Preview on a sphere, cube, plane, cylinder, or torus with HDRI or point lighting. Export presets cover glTF, Blender, UE5, and Unity.
Engine Workflows
Blender
Export an OpenGL (+Y) normal map, a 16-bit height or displacement PNG, and a roughness map. Connect the normal through a tangent-space Normal Map node, drive a Displacement node on a subdivided mesh, and feed roughness into the Principled BSDF.
Unreal Engine 5
Choose the DirectX (-Y) normal convention and pack an ORM map. The 16-bit displacement PNG can drive height where the material uses world-position offset or a displacement workflow. The UE5 preset lines up channels.
Unity
Use the Unity export preset for an OpenGL-style tangent normal. Assign the normal texture, then connect roughness, AO, and metallic to the shader slots. For repeating environments, start with the seamless texture maker.
Step-by-Step Usage
- Open https://normalmapai.com/ in a WebGL2-capable browser. No login is required.
- Drop a 2D photo or texture into the generator.
- Choose the maps you need: tangent-space normal (OpenGL +Y or DirectX -Y), 16-bit PNG height or displacement, roughness, AO, metallic, curvature, specular, emissive, or a packed ORM map.
- If the surface must repeat, use the seamless tileable texture maker. For decals and sprites, use the transparent PNG background remover.
- Check the result in the 3D preview on a sphere, cube, plane, cylinder, or torus, with HDRI or point lighting.
- Export with the glTF, Blender, UE5, or Unity preset and download the PNGs. Processing stays on your device.
FAQ
Does NormalMapAI upload my textures?
No. Every pixel is processed 100% locally in the browser with WebGL2 GPU shaders. Textures never leave your device.
Is an account required, and what does it cost?
No account is required. NormalMapAI is free: 100% free in-browser, with zero login.
Which normal convention should I pick?
OpenGL uses +Y. DirectX uses -Y. Or use the Blender, UE5, Unity, or glTF export preset.
Why 16-bit maps?
A 16-bit PNG is smoother than 8-bit grayscale. That helps Blender and UE5 displacement and 3D-print relief.
What can I preview?
Sphere, cube, plane, cylinder, or torus, with HDRI or point lighting.
