Bikaner's Education Landscape Has Shifted Since 1959, but Swami RN Senior Secondary School Remains

Bikaner, Rajasthan: When Swami RN Senior Secondary School first opened its doors in 1959, the CBSE board as it exists today had not yet become the dominant curriculum framework used across India. Sixty-seven years later, the school, located in the Karni Nagar area of Bikaner's Cantonment, now operates under the CBSE system, having adapted its academic structure as national education policy evolved over the decades.

The Central Board of Secondary Education expanded its reach considerably in the years following the school's founding, gradually becoming the standard curriculum for a large share of schools across Rajasthan and other states. Institutions established before this shift, including Swami RN Senior Secondary School, generally transitioned their academic frameworks over time to align with the CBSE structure rather than continuing under earlier, more regionally specific systems.

This kind of transition was not unique to any single school, but it does mean that an institution operating since 1959 has, by necessity, been through more than one phase of curriculum change during its history. The school currently offers instruction from the nursery level through senior secondary, with its academic calendar and examination processes now following the standard CBSE format used nationally.

Beyond curriculum changes, the physical and social landscape around the school has also shifted substantially since 1959. The Cantonment area of Bikaner, where the school is located on Garden of Teja Road, has seen new development over the decades, including residential growth in Karni Nagar and surrounding localities. Despite this, the school has continued to operate from its original site rather than relocating to a newer part of the city.

A representative of the school noted that while much has changed around the institution, its core function has remained the same. "The curriculum has changed over the years, the neighborhood has changed, but we're still here doing the same basic work we started in 1959," the representative said.
